Designer Drugs + Black Holes + Nick Santore

•November 21, 2008 • 1 Comment

First off, as you may have noticed, I made some changes to the design/ layout of the blog. For starters, I contracted Nick Santore of Rubbish Films (for lots and lots of USD) to rework the header and iTunes art (pictured and attached to all new MP3s) for a fresh November look. I also removed the ads and replaced them with genuine bog-o-sphere love (thanks for the guilt-trip, Zoya). Lastly, I changed out the ubiquitous “we’re innocent” disclaimer and replaced it with something a little more “us”. Now that you’re up-to-date with the blog happenings, what are you going to do tonight?

PARTY PEOPLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!!!!!!!@#$%#4

Tonight, Designer Drugs + Black Holes + Junk Solo + DJ Moptop will be tearing up this months Yo Electro at Sonotheque! Come through before 11pm and get your freak on for free (w/ Going RSVP). Plan on coming a little later? Not to worry, it’s only a Hamilton. That’s about all I got in regards to the event, so just put this reality-new/ blogworld-old Designer Drugs remix on until tonight’s show. Peace!

If you’re like me and think Kanye’s new album sounds like elevator music from the year 3000, then you are desperately searching for something with a futuristic feel… but doesn’t make you want to take a nap. Well, I am a huge fan of hearing stuff that sounds otherworldly, so I will give you a little insight on what I’m into right now.

One of my favorites is Chicago-based Vyle (A member of URB’s coveted “Next 100″), who has performed with everyone from Flosstradamus to Busy P. The concept of an electronic rapper may seem like one that should be a massive trend with endless copycats, but Vyle’s seamless swagger and vast imagination sets him a part from the imitators. To celebrate the beauty of “futuristic gangsta-rappers”, check out this assortment of spacey-gangsta goods:

Spank Rock & Amanda Blank - Grit City
Vyle - Possible (Produced by Shazam)

While I know I’m usually supplying heavy club bangers in my posts, I figured I would change things up and throw a curve ball at you. Some of you may have heard of an artist who goes by the name Dances With White Girls (aka my favorite recreational activity), well Throne of Blood, home of The Rapture, hit us up with a track off of DWWG’s new EP titled New Crack Swing. New Crack Swing dropped earlier this week and it’s actually pretty dope. At first the promo track, “Everyone’s Got To Make A Living”, wasn’t really clicking with me, but I have to say I’ve come to enjoy it. Dig into “Everyone’s Got To Make A Living” and don’t sleep on this dude, he has the potential to seriously blow up.

I have a funny story for you:

I went to Sonotheque this past weekend and mistook Jason Tyler for Oh Snap!. For some reason I thought they were one in the same, which is weird because they don’t look alike at all. Much like Oh Snap!, Jason is pretty dope, I’m glad he remembered our conversation about this video (posted) because I sure as hell didn’t (no offense, it was a rough night). In any case, here are a couple of tracks that I’ve kind of gotten a late start on, in fact you may have already snagged them from URB a couple of weeks ago.

P.S. - I’m feelin’ the Rico Tubbs dub the most. Now check the rhyme *cues horns*.

Michael Jackson + Alex Rage

Remember when Michael Jackson looked like that? Yeah. Me too. He’s just not as legit as a white dude. You know who is legit as a white dude? Alex Rage. Suck in this bass-line with your morning cup-o-coffee to get a proper “whomp whomp” start to your day.

Got some fresh stuff from Hey Champ. Their new mixtape, tour dates and, as promised, the 80Kidz remix of “Cold Dust Girl” just came in. I was a little surprised to get all these goodies in one email, because as you can see they’re on tour right now. I can appreciate people sending me stuff that they’ve worked hard on, but I can appreciate people sending sending me stuff that they’ve worked hard on WHILE working hard on touring, a whole lot more. It’s like, after a night of DJing or partying, the last thing I want to do is produce a song (if I produced) or record a mix, at that point I’d be more concerned about ridding myself of a hang-over.

Anyway, I’d like to keep this one short and sweet, so take a glance at the tour dates to see if you’ll have a chance to see Hey Champ with/ without Lupe Fiasco and/ or Justice. After that you should consider downloading their new mixtape and/ or other tracks. Lastly, if you can tell me where I got the title of this post from, I will forever respect you.

On Tour:
Nov 17 - Elmira College @ The Emerson Hall (Elmira, New York) **
Nov 20 - ROCK STEADY @ Moonshine (DJ Set) (Chicago, Illinois)

Dec 5 - Univ. Of Maryland @ The Ritchie Coliseum (College Park, Maryland) **
Dec 31 - Congress Theater NYE Party (Chicago, Illinois) †

** - with Lupe Fiasco
† - with Justice

(Chromeo @ WaMu Theatre, NYC via Me)

I know these Chromeo remixes have been floating around on Discobelle, Stereogum and the Fool’s Gold Blog, but for the record, I got them from my guy over at Think Espionage. Oh, you don’t have a guy over at Think Espionage? Whatevs, I mean, it’s no big deal. Ha, totally joking with the attitude!

But yeah, these remixes are incredible. Treasure Fingers, Nacho Lovers and Trackademics all put their own spin on Chromeo’s already stellar “100%”. Even with the remixer’s different interpretations, all of the remixes still have that signature Chromeo flavor, and damn it, who doesn’t love a little Chromeo flavor!? Given the fact that this whole project is possible via A-trak, I’m going to end with an excerpt from the Fool’s Gold blog:

“Chromeo is my brother with our childhood friend, Fool’s Gold is my label… It’s only natural to get Fool’s Gold producers to remix Chromeo. Yet it took Bacardi to make it happen.”

100% valid points. 100% Bacardi. 100% gold.

Chromeo - 100% (Treasure Fingers Remix)
Chromeo - 100% (Nacho Lovers Remix)
Chromeo - 100% (Trackademicks Remix)

Yello Fever

•November 14, 2008 • 3 Comments

(Original photography via Clayton Hauk) (Edit via Me)

I’ve actually been hanging on to this Yello Fever remix for a while now, but I felt it was appropriate to give Everyoneisfamous some exclusivity for a minute. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Yello Fever, it’s a Chicago DJ/ producer collective consisting of Skyler, Kid Color and Jobot. If you’ve been out in Chicago in the past month, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve caught one of their shows, maybe without knowing. Actually, you can catch them tonight at the Justice screening after-party with Eamon Harkin and Bald Eagle. Events aside, the fever did some serious Chicago work on this Hey Champ tune.

“Cold Dust Girl” was on HEAVY rotation over here for a real long time (and still is), I’m glad someone finally remixed it proper. To be honest, I have a couple other remixes from 80Kidz and Rufus that I’m just waiting to get the go ahead on. I hope I get the opportunity to share them with you because they’re both quite enjoyable. Good remixes are always a plus, but Hey Champ definitely killed it with the original.

As long as we’re on the topic of Hey Champ, I just wanted to give those guys another shout-out and wish them congratulations on getting signed to Lupe’s label; 1st & 15th. They’re all genuinely nice guys who happened to be extremely talented and I wish nothing but the best for them. Amen!

The Disco Villains drop fire. Whether it be a remix of one of today’s biggest dance icons, yesterday’s most infamous Hip-Hop groups or an original masterpiece, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a heater. This new remix of A1 Bassline’s “Girl Thing” is pretty solid, it’s no “Move Bitch” (which is still my favorite) or “We Are Your Friends” remix, but it’s definitely a cure for the DV itch.
